Race Ready Limited Warranty and Replacement

The Materiaal Race Ready Limited Warranty and Replacement policy covers manufacturing defects and provides no fault accidental damage support for genuine Materiaal wheels. Coverage follows the wheel, with longer terms for the original purchaser. Replacement parts are supported for ten years.

No registration required. This applies to the original purchaser and every subsequent lawful owner.

Your coverage

The original-purchaser terms apply while that purchaser retains ownership. When a wheel is sold or given away, the subsequent-owner terms apply automatically.

Coverage Original purchaser Subsequent owners
Carbon-rim defects 10 years 4 years
Component defects 4 years 4 years
No fault accidental damage 10 years 4 years
First accidental damage incident No product charge Incident fee per affected wheel

All ten-year and four-year terms begin at original retail delivery. Selling, giving away, or repairing a wheel does not restart the terms. Replacements have a separate minimum defect warranty.

The original purchaser's one free incident per wheelset can cover either or both wheels damaged in that incident, provided they still own them. Later eligible incidents carry the incident fee per affected wheel, with no preset limit on eligible paid incidents during coverage.

The terms below explain what is covered, what you pay, and how to claim. A ten-year coverage term is not an assurance that a wheel can be used safely for ten years without inspection or proper maintenance.

Manufacturing-defect limited warranty

We cover defects in materials or workmanship, including those that become apparent during normal use.

Parts covered

Carbon rims
Ten years for the original purchaser while they retain ownership; four years for subsequent owners.
Components
Four years for the supplied hub, hub internals, spokes, bearings, nipples, spoke attachments, and spoke hardware. This applies to all owners, regardless of the component supplier.
Bearings
The full four-year manufacturing-defect term applies. Expected wear from use or lack of maintenance is excluded.

These terms run from the original retail delivery date.

Use and maintenance

For manufacturing-defect coverage, follow the published:

  • Intended-use category and system-weight limit
  • Tire compatibility requirements and pressure limits
  • Installation and maintenance instructions

Training and professional competition are included within the model's intended use. Routine service by a qualified independent mechanic does not remove coverage. Incorrect service or incompatible parts exclude only the damage they cause.

Normal wear, deterioration from ordinary use, routine servicing, and replacement of worn parts are not covered. See exclusions and fair use for the other limits.

What we provide

For an approved defect claim, Materiaal will repair or replace the affected wheel or component at no charge, including:

  • Parts and Materiaal-approved labor needed to restore safe function
  • Standard shipping in both directions

We may arrange work through a local service shop or dealer. Get our approval before starting work for reimbursement.

If the original part or wheel is unavailable, we will discuss a comparable or better replacement and its compatibility with you before proceeding. An approved covered remedy carries no additional product charge.

A defect claim does not use your free accidental damage incident. A previous accidental damage claim does not remove coverage for a separate manufacturing defect.

No fault accidental damage

No fault means no fault. Eligibility does not depend on who caused the accident or how it happened. A description of the damage is enough to start a claim.

We cover structural or functional damage from:

  • Riding, racing, potholes, and debris
  • Transport, travel, and flight baggage handling
  • Roof-rack accidents, storage, and handling
  • Dogs who thought "carbon fiber" was a flavor

The manufacturing-defect warranty's intended-use conditions do not restrict this benefit. We assess the condition, identity, and remaining coverage, and may request photographs, video, or a physical inspection. Claims meeting the published eligibility requirements are covered, subject to the exclusions and evidence-based abuse provisions.

Accidental damage support lasts ten years for the original purchaser while they retain ownership, or until four years after original retail delivery for subsequent owners. Transfers and replacements do not extend these terms. A replacement's minimum defect warranty does not extend accidental damage eligibility.

Your first incident

The original purchaser's first approved accidental damage incident per wheelset has no product charge, with standard shipping back to the owner included.

  • It covers either or both wheels damaged in the same incident, provided the original purchaser still owns them.
  • Using it for one wheel uses the wheelset's free incident. The other wheel keeps its remaining defect warranty and paid accidental damage support.
  • It does not transfer, even if unused. Repairs, replacements, ownership changes, or selling the wheels separately do not create or renew a free incident.

The current incident fee is US$250 per affected wheel per incident, plus applicable purchase taxes such as VAT, GST, or state taxes.

The fee applies after the original purchaser's free incident. Subsequent owners pay it from their first eligible incident, regardless of the previous owner's claim history.

Wheels requiring replacement in one incident Service cost
One wheel One incident fee
Both wheels Two incident fees

There is no preset limit on eligible paid incidents during the accidental damage term. Fair-use provisions apply. The fee may change only under the policy-change terms.

Assessment and repair options

We first assess whether a return is necessary or a suitable local service shop or dealer can do the work. Photos and video may be sufficient.

Replacement
The incident fee includes an assembled replacement wheel, necessary parts, and assembly labor. If the original is unavailable, we will discuss a comparable or better replacement with you.
Approved local repair
We agree the work, cost, and any use of the free incident with you before work begins. A repair under the free incident includes authorized parts and labor. For a paid incident, we discuss the repair option(s) before you decide.
Return
Wait for our instructions before shipping. If required for accidental damage, you pay shipping and import charges to the service location we specify. We pay standard shipping back to you.

See shipping and taxes for costs and replacement standards for return or destruction requirements.

Shipping details

Before you ship
Materiaal will arrange or authorize standard shipping for a necessary manufacturing-defect assessment. We confirm the service route and any owner-paid costs before requesting a shipment.
Shipments to you
Materiaal covers all standard shipments under this policy, including duties, taxes, brokerage, and cross-border charges, except the purchase taxes below.
Purchase taxes
You pay taxes required by national, regional, or local law, including sales tax, use tax, VAT, GST, and equivalents, whether collected at payment or importation. We identify applicable purchase taxes before you accept a paid remedy.
Accidental damage returns
If required, you pay shipping and all import duties, taxes, brokerage, and other border charges to the Materiaal service location in our instructions. Contact us first so we can assess whether remote assessment or approved local repair can avoid that shipment.

When ownership changes

Coverage applies to the current lawful owner of a genuine Materiaal wheel. When a wheel is sold or given away:

  • Original-purchaser benefits end. Subsequent-owner defect coverage and paid accidental damage support continue until four years after original retail delivery. Any remaining minimum replacement-defect warranty also transfers, but does not extend accidental damage support.
  • There is no transfer fee, registration deadline, or requirement for the previous owner's approval.
  • Coverage dates and claim history stay with the wheel. Transfer or repair does not restart coverage, and replacement does not reset the base terms or accidental damage history.
  • The free accidental damage incident remains an original-purchaser benefit shared by the wheelset's front and rear wheels. It applies only to wheels they still own and never transfers, including when the wheels are sold separately.

Materiaal may verify the wheel ID or rim bar code, ownership, original retail delivery date, and previous claims. A receipt can establish the date without being in the current owner's name. If it is unavailable, we will review our records and reasonable alternative evidence with you. Prior registration is not required.

Replacements and parts support

Replacement standards

  • A comparable replacement is based on the original wheel's intended use, compatibility, and performance.
  • Replacing one wheel does not qualify an undamaged companion wheel for replacement.
  • When we supply a replacement under this policy, the wheel or component being replaced becomes the property of Materiaal, Inc.
  • We may require the old wheel or component to be returned, or destroyed with proof of destruction. Wait for our approval and instructions before destroying or disposing of any part.

Minimum defect warranty on replacements

Every replacement wheel or component supplied under this policy, including a paid accidental damage replacement, receives defect coverage until the later of:

  1. Two years after replacement delivery.
  2. The end of the current owner's applicable base defect term: ten years after original retail delivery for an original purchaser's carbon rim, or four years for other components and all subsequent-owner defect coverage.

The replacement keeps the original wheel's ownership status and original retail delivery date for calculating base coverage. The minimum applies to the replacement wheel or component supplied.

  • If sold: the remaining two-year minimum transfers. The four-year subsequent-owner base term applies if it ends later.
  • If repaired or resold: the two-year minimum does not restart.
  • If replaced again under this policy: that further replacement receives its own two-year minimum.

For example, a rim replaced for the original purchaser in year nine is covered for defects until year eleven. If sold in year ten, coverage continues until year eleven under the replacement minimum.

Replacement does not reset the free accidental damage allowance or extend accidental damage eligibility. For the original purchaser, the end of four-year component coverage does not shorten the ten-year rim or accidental damage term.

Ten-year replacement-parts support

Materiaal maintains replacement-parts stock for ten years from each wheel's original retail delivery, including the following:

  • Rims
  • Spokes
  • Nipples
  • Hubs
  • Hub internals
  • Hub end caps

If a required original part is unavailable, we will provide a comparable or better replacement and discuss its compatibility and any required changes with you before proceeding.

Parts and approved labor for covered claims are included. Ordinary maintenance and other work outside coverage are quoted for approval before work begins.

Exclusions and fair use

What is not covered

  • Commercial rental or hire use
  • Loss or theft
  • Wheels with missing, altered, or unreadable identification, including wheel ID or bar code
  • Cosmetic-only damage that does not affect safe function
  • Deliberate damage caused to obtain a policy benefit
  • Third-party accessories such as tires, cassettes, and brake rotors
  • Normal wear is not an accidental damage incident

Additional limits on defect coverage

The manufacturing-defect warranty also excludes:

  • Deterioration from ordinary use, routine servicing, and replacement of worn parts.
  • Accidental damage, which may qualify for no fault support.
  • Damage caused by use outside published operating limits, incompatible parts, incorrect installation, inadequate maintenance, or modifications.

Fair assessment and claim reviews

We may deny a claim where reasonable grounds, supported by evidence, show abuse. Examples include falsified ownership or product information, altered wheel identification used to obtain benefits, duplicate claims for damage already remedied, and deliberately damaging a wheel to obtain a replacement.

The number of legitimate incidents alone is not evidence of abuse. Fault, an accidental mistake, or not providing an account of the accident is not a reason to deny a no fault claim.

If we deny a claim, we will give you the applicable policy provision and supporting reasons in writing. You can correct information or request a review. Denial of an abusive claim does not automatically remove coverage for an unrelated legitimate defect.

Email [email protected] with:

  • A description of the issue or damage.
  • Any applicable photos or video.
  • A clear photo of the wheel ID or rim bar code.
  • Your contact details and any available information establishing original retail delivery.

We may request specific additional photos or video to assess the issue properly.

Do not ride a wheel that may be structurally damaged. Keep the wheel until we confirm the remedy and provide instructions for any return, local service, or removal from use.

Do not ship a wheel, request reimbursement, or destroy or dispose of parts before our approval and instructions.

Materiaal will explain the coverage decision, proposed remedy, applicable charges, and expected timing before proceeding.

Policy continuity and consumer rights

Notice of changes

We publish policy changes and incident-fee adjustments here at least 90 days before they take effect. Revised coverage terms apply to wheels purchased on or after their effective date.

Wheels already covered retain the terms promised at purchase throughout their applicable coverage periods, except for the paid accidental damage incident fee.

Incident fee adjustments

  • The fee may change no more than once in any 12-month period, to reflect changes in the direct cost of repair or replacement wheels or components.
  • The fee in effect when you first report the damage applies to that claim, even if assessment or replacement happens later.
  • The original purchaser's first eligible no-charge incident and all covered defect repairs and replacements remain unchanged.

Your rights

This policy gives you specific rights. You may also have rights and remedies under applicable law. Nothing in this policy excludes or limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
